Wildcat surprise

For our next question on the EGLS '72 blog, tell us one thing about you, your life, or your path that none of us (possibly even you) would have guessed. We all thought we knew you pretty well by the eighth grade. So what have you done that would surprise all of us?
Second, tell us something about you that no one else knows (you may make an exception for those closest to you, your spouse, e.g., who know everything - or do they?).
Answer one or both questions.
While I have your attention, may I repeat my encouragement to all to invite as many of our classmates to the blog as you know? Thanks.

I dunno John. I don’t see the responses pouring in on this one. This question is too hard. We need something easier like “What was your most embarrassing EGLS memory?”, or "What unique experience at EGLS has stuck with you or helped you in your life?" or maybe "Who can still recite Paul Gritzmacher’s prepositional phrase poem/brain worm?” (btw… he added another verse.)

While my life has had its share of twists and turns, it is just mostly stuff that has happened to me, not so much a hidden personality trait. For sure I am not the same immature idiot that I was in grade school… I have matured so that I am now more of a stubborn idiot.

John – How about starting us off with your “surprise”? You must have had something of your own in mind when you asked the question.

Ok John, I agree with Mitch on this one. BTW, I can still recite Gritzmacher's prepositional phrase poem - all 4 verses, didn't know there was another one added.

I guess one thing I would tell you guys is that I was completly mortified that my parents moved us to Florida. I hated leaving all of you and swore I would return to WI after graduating high school to be with you all again. I'm sure the majority of the class went their separate ways but it is really good to hear that some of us are still alive and kicking.

Once again, am looking forward to a reunion. If you guys want to escape the "frozen tundra", you all are welcome here as I have friends in the hotel industry and can offer you guys the best rates, jet skis, parasailing, fishing, boating, tubing, etc....all those things us Floridian's take for granted living in paradise.

Well, I wasn't really thinking about anything difficult, just surprising.
For me, surprising might be 'I grew a beard, bought a guitar and left the LC-MS.' If, in June of '72, we all lined up to do any of those things (just the guys on the first one), I would have been last in line every time.
I think maybe all of us are very different from what we were 35 years ago; and surprising. Reading up on all of you, I am impressed about what we have become. There are engineers, executives, community leaders, and doctors among us. Some have started businesses and some are leaders in volunteer work. Also there are people like L.A. whose job title doesn't even begin to reveal all she does. She is a very eloquent person.
Maybe the real surprise is how much brain power we had in so small a group.

Ok… in that case, I hardly know where to begin. Since I was basically afraid of girls in grade school, the fact that I was able to find one willing marry me was a huge surprise. The fact that she is still putting up with me after 27 years of marriage is amazing to me. I had the opportunity to learn to fly (using a plane, not drugs). I even jumped out of the plane a few times (not while I was the pilot)… never had the courage to grow a beard… maybe someday. I have also been fortunate to have two terrific daughters. I could bore you all with how proud I am of them. Oh, I almost forgot… I now like soccer (both my girls played on select teams and in high school). Who’d a thunk?

John encouraged me to not be afraid of this so I am attempting to overcome my computer iliteracy.

I'm hoping this works. So maybe the biggest surprize is that I have learned to a.) use the computer, and b.) be able to blog on it!

It's nice to get caught up with lots of you!

(My daughter, Carolyn, was fortunate to have Mitch as a Youth Counselor at EGL for a number of years. So, while he didn't brag about that, it was very beneficial to the kids!)
